Stop Paying for Energy You Don't Use

Most industrial facilities draw "Reactive Power" that does no actual work but occupies system capacity and attracts utility penalties. Megatricity’s Power Factor Correction solutions ensure your system draws only the power it needs. By improving your Power Factor closer to unity (1.0), we free up transformer capacity and eliminate utility surcharges instantly.

Why Invest in PFC?

Penalty Avoidance

Completely eliminate kVAR surcharges and penalties on your monthly utility bills.

Increased Capacity

Free up transformer capacity, allowing you to add more machinery without upgrading your infrastructure.

Voltage Stability

Reduce voltage drops across long cable runs, ensuring your motors and drives receive stable power.

Cooler Operation

Minimize resistive heat losses in cables and switchgear, significantly extending equipment life.

Fast Payback

Most PFC systems deliver a full return on investment through bill savings within 12 to 18 months.

Carbon Efficiency

Reduce overall energy demand and associated carbon emissions from the power grid.

Common Questions

Expert Insights on Power Factor

Understanding the technicalities of your grid can be complex. Here are the most common questions our engineering team receives regarding PFC.

What exactly is Power Factor?
Power Factor is the ratio of "Working Power" (kW) to "Apparent Power" (kVA). It measures how effectively your electrical system converts electricity into useful work. A low power factor means you are drawing more current than you actually use.
How do I know if I need a PFC system?
Check your utility bill for "Reactive Power Charges" or "Low Power Factor Surcharges." If your Power Factor is below 0.90, you are likely paying penalties. A 7-day data logging audit by Megatricity can provide a definitive answer.
Will PFC reduce my actual energy (kWh) usage?
PFC does not significantly reduce kWh (the amount of energy consumed), but it reduces kVA (the demand put on the grid). Since many commercial tariffs are based on kVA demand, the financial savings are often substantial.
What is the difference between standard and detuned PFC?
Standard PFC uses only capacitors. Detuned PFC includes "Reactors" (coils) that protect the capacitors from Harmonics (electrical noise). If your site has many VFDs, computers, or LED lights, a detuned system is necessary to prevent hardware failure.
